Plastic Bag Removed From Tree

It took some effort, but we were up for the challenge.

Plastic Bag Removed From Tree
The plastic bag tangled in the tree branches.

Sometime in mid-December, a plastic Walmart grocery bag flew into the branches of a neighborhood tree. Not just any tree ― the tall, towering oak in the middle of the Haynie green space.

For several weeks, the plastic bag remained tangled high in the tree branches, almost near the top of the tree. Because it's the middle of winter, no leaves were present to obscure the view of bag, meaning it was visible from far away.

Neighbors Summer and Bennett Meares decided something had to be done. They brought out the tallest ladder they could find and climbed to the top rung. Despite their best efforts, the bag still laid out of reach, stubbornly tangled amidst the branches. They tried shaking the tree and grabbing the bag with an array of tools, but nothing made it budge.

At long last, a garden rake proved to be the tool for the job, extending our reach just far enough to wrestle the bag free from the clutches of the branches. It took a couple of tugs, but cheers could be heard across the neighborhood once the bag fell to the ground.
