Neighborhood Boys Clear Ice from Sidewalks

Kerr and Carter worked hard to remove ice from many driveways.

Neighborhood Boys Clear Ice from Sidewalks
The boys needed a pickaxe to clear the toughest ice.

On Sunday, January 25th, Greenville woke up to a winter wonderland―bright white ice blanketed the whole city. This was especially true for Haynie-Sirrine, which looked especially peaceful in the icey "snow" (if only it were!).

As the days passed and business returned to normal, something become strikingly clear: the ice was not melting on one side of the street. Many homes cast shadows over sidewalks and driveways, preventing the sidewalk ice from melting.

Sidewalk ice only melted on one side of the street.

Friends Kerr and Carter, local boys in the neighborhood, took notice. The neighbors needed their help clearing walkways and sidewalks, and these two were just the ones for the job. Kerr worked especially hard with a shovel and pickaxe, and soon Carter joined the battle to clear the sidewalks. Before too long, the boys cleared out the thick ice, providing safe access to their neighbors' houses.

Thank you to Kerr and Carter for taking the initiative and lending a helping hand! They truly demonstrated what it means to be a good neighbor.
