Houston Street Traffic Calming Study
Virtual kick-off meeting to be held on Thursday, August 14th for residents of the study area

Over the past few months, several residents in the Tindal/Houston area have expressed concerns regarding vehicle traffic speeds on Houston Street. Residents have frequently observed cars driving above the residential speed limit going to and from the Primrose School located on Houston Street and Rose Avenue.
There are children and seniors who reside in this area, and the excessive speeds create potential safety issues. Residents have expressed their concerns to the owner of the Primrose School, and the school has notified parents of the need to drive cautiously through the streets surrounding the school.
Residents have also contacted the City of Greenville's Engineering Department and formally requested the initiation of a traffic calming study. The process to review this request began on June 4th. A study area was identified by the City that included 51 households in the Tindal / Houston / Watts / Rose / Chapin neighborhood. The process to initiate the study required that the majority of households in this study area sign a traffic management program petition acknowledging the study area and demonstrating neighborhood interest in the traffic calming study. The required signatures were collected and submitted to the City on June 26th.
On July 28th, the City's Engineering Department informed neighborhood residents that the request for the traffic calming study had been approved, and outlined the next steps in the study process. The first step in this process is a virtual kick-off meeting hosted by the City on Thursday, August 14th. Post cards have been mailed by the City to the study area residents announcing the virtual meeting and providing a meeting registration link. The City has also created a webpage that will include information and updates as the study progresses:
